Ben Shelton vs Alex Bolt prediction
Ben Shelton has not had the Wimbledon preparations he would have hoped for in the lead up to the event. It began well enough with a semi-final appearance in Stuttgart, but he was unable to fashion even a break point against Alexander Zverev as he lost 7-6 7-6. He then suffered a surprise first-round loss at Queen’s Club despite being one of the favourites, as Arthur Rinderknech beat him in straight sets. He followed that up with another disappointing defeat to compatriot and teenager Learner Tien in Mallorca despite being the top seed.
Alex Bolt mainly competes on the Challenger Tour, getting through to the quarter-finals of the Birmingham Classic at the start of the grass court season before losing to compatriot Rinky Hijikata in straight sets. He also succeeded in advancing to the main draw of Queen’s, losing to Jacob Fearnley and he then won all three of his Wimbledon qualifiers relatively comfortably.
Despite concerns over parts of Shelton’s game, mainly when it comes to his return, Bolt is unlikely to cause much of an upset and the 22-year-old will be hoping for a return to form and a comfortable win.
