The background

Styled as a new ‘Battle of the Sexes’, current women’s world number one Aryna Sabalenka takes on Australia’s Nick Kyrgios in an exhibition match that has been highly criticised for the potential damage it can do to the women’s game.

Even Billie Jean King, who famously beat Bobby Riggs in 1973, has been outspoken in her belief that this is not being done for the right reasons.

The match will be a best of three-set contest, with a ten-point tie-break being played in the final set if required. In an attempt to nullify Kyrgios’ strength advantage, both players will be granted just one serve, meaning that accuracy will be prioritised over power.

In addition, Sabalenka’s side of the court will be 9% smaller than that of her male counterpart, which again has been done to even things up.

Aryna Sabalenka vs Nick Kyrgios prediction

Whether the modifications will be enough to give Sabalenka a chance of victory remains to be seen. Very little is known about the shape Kyrgios is in right now, as injuries restricted him to just five matches in 2025.

Having said that, the Australian is a huge talent and a former Grand Slam finalist, so he is the natural favourite if he can produce a strong level of tennis. He plans to make a full return to the ATP Tour in 2026, so it seems likely that he has been putting in plenty of practise.

Although this is an exhibition, Sabalenka will not take this lightly and will be determined to put up a fight here. We fancy her to win a set, but for Kyrgios to edge the win.
