It’s not often that a 21-year-old would be seen the vastly senior player in a match here at Wimbledon. But that’s the case when it comes to Ashlyn Krueger, as the young American takes on a player still studying for her GCSE exams outside of tennis. Don’t be fooled by her tender age though, Mika Stojsavljevic is a star of the future and potentially even the present.
Although just 16, Stojsavljevic has already tasted success in singles competition, winning the US Open girls tournament in 2024 and also becoming British national champion. Whilst she failed to advance through the qualifiers at Queen’s Club, Nottingham and Eastbourne, a wildcard was awarded to her, giving Stojsavljevic a shot in the main draw at Wimbledon for the first time.
Whilst Krueger, the 31st seed heading into the tournament is rightly the favourite, it would be typical of this competition to see a British player cause a huge shock on a stage such as this. Stojsavljevic’s powerful serve will cause Krueger problems and breaking the Brit will not prove easy. Combine that with the momentum and confidence garnered from the home crowd and Stojsavljevic is very capable of winning at least a set here, so backing this one to go all the way warrants serious consideration.
