Ashlyn Krueger suffered a right ankle injury in the second-round of her Washington Open clash with Naomi Osaka, leading to a retirement in the second set. That would have been a blow for the American following her superb run at Wimbledon, which saw her advance to the round-of-16. She was forced to miss the Canadian Open, but she is back in time for Cincinnati. Her best result on the WTA Tour this season was a semi-final appearance at the ATX Open.
She faces Lois Boisson in round one. The 2025 Roland Garros semi-finalist went a set up against Antonia Ruzic in the opening round of the Canadian Open, but went on to lose in three. She could only make her first appearance of the campaign in April due to injury, and she has just one tour-level victory so far in 2026.
Krueger will be expected to return to winning ways with a straight-forward victory over Boisson.
