Aryna Sabalenka vs Qinwen Zheng prediction

Aryna Sabalenka takes on Qinwen Zheng in one of the ties of the quarter-finals at this year’s French Open.

It pits the world number one against the Olympic champion, who won Gold at Roland-Garros last year.

Both players have looked strong so far with the Chinese number eight seed perhaps having to dig deepest to see of Liudmila Samsonova in a deciding set last time out. 

Sabalenka has barely been beaten this year but did lose 6-4 6-3 to Zheng in the quarter-finals in Rome just last month.

However, that is the Chinese star’s only success against Sabalenka in their previous seven meetings. The Belarusian had won six in a row against Zheng, dropping just one set prior to looking a touch fatigued in their clash in the Italian capital. 

Some will suggest the eighth seed now has the tactics to defeat the top seed or that Zheng is on a special, winning streak at the venue, but the reality is that Sabalenka will be a clear favourite.

The three-time major winner has that little bit extra in both the serve and her groundstrokes while her movement and variety on the clay have gone up a level this year.
