Aryna Sabalenka vs Polina Kudermetova prediction
Aryna Sabalenka took some time to settle into her surroundings but once she was able to get on a role, there was no stopping the world number one. Sabalanka dropped just one game in the second set of her first round win against Rebeka Masarova and showed once again that when she gets into a rhythm on the hard court, there’s very little that can stop her.
Polina Kudermetova is her next assignment, a player who should be relatively fresh after benefitting from a walkover over win when first round opponent Nuria Parrizas-Diaz was forced to retire hurt with the score at 2-2 due to an ankle injury. Kudermetova had enough time on court at least to acclimatise herself to conditions at Flushing Meadows.
Regardless of that however, little can prepare Kudermetova for the challenge that Sabalenka provides. Her power and serve is debilitating for opponents and it’s unlikely that Kudermetova’s defence is strong enough to counter what Sabalenka will be sending her way. Therefore, back the reigning US Open champion to win in two sets.
