Aryna Sabalenka vs Peyton Stearns prediction

Two-time Madrid Open champion and world number one Aryna Sabalenka made it 10 wins against Elise Mertens with victory in the third-round but had to come from a set down. The Belarussian won 3-6 6-2 6-1. In the first set, she committed 14 unforced errors, but that number was reduced to just five in the second while her winner count rose from seven in set one to 24 across the following two sets.

She takes on Peyton Stearns in the round-of-16 as the American raced to 6-2 6-0 win over qualifier Rebeka Masarova in just 65 minutes. This is the first time she has reached that stage of a 1000 event on clay. 

These two have only played once before, but it was a thrilling and dramatic encounter. In the 2024 Indian Wells second-round, Sabalenka had to save four match points on her way to winning 6-7 6-2 7-6.  Stearns was 5-4 40-0 up at one point but couldn’t get it done and will be out for revenge.

Unfortunately for her, we can’t see that happening and favour the world number one getting through in straight sets.
