Two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka produced a ruthless second-round performance, easily beating qualifier Polina Iatcenko 6-1 6-1 in just 54 minutes. The world number one overwhelmed her opponent with 24 winners, won 75% of her first serve points and converted six of eight break point opportunities. Sabalenka has now won 15 consecutive matches at the US Open as she attempts to become the first woman since Serena Williams to claim three successive titles in New York. She opened this year’s campaign with a straight sets win over Camila Osorio.

Kamilla Rakhimova is her next opponent, after she easily beat Oksana Selekhemteva. After the opening set reached 3-3, Rakhimova reeled off nine consecutive games to complete a 6-3 6-0 victory. She did not face a break point across the entire match. Rakhimova produced a significant upset in round one, as she eliminated two-time Grand Slam singles champion Barbora Krejcikova.

Sabalenka dominates this matchup, having won all three of their previous encounters. They last played at Roland Garros last year, with the 28-year-old winning 6-1 6-0. She is an overwhelming favourite to continue her defence.
