Aryna Sabalenka vs Jessica Pegula prediction
Aryna Sabalenka continued her unbeaten run in Wuhan as she got through to the semi-finals with a comfortable victory over Elena Rybakina. The three-time defending champion dismantled the Rybakina serve as she won 6-3 6-3 after just an hour and 25 minutes. She stretched her unbeaten run at the event to 20 matches and is into her 11th semi-final of the season.
She will next go up against Jessica Pegula. The American once again came through a three set match, as she defeated Katerina Siniakova. Siniakova started well and took the first set, but Pegula dominated the match after that as she won 2-6 6-0 6-3. Pegula has now made the semi-finals of her last three tournaments.
Sabalenka dominates the head-to-head, leading 8-2 and 5-2 on hard court. Their most notable match was last year’s US Open final, with Sabalenka winning in straight sets. They have already played on two occasions this season, with the world number one beating Pegula in the Miami Open final and then coming from a set down to win in their semi-final match in New York less than six weeks ago.
Sabalenka has won their last four meetings overall and will be a huge favourite to make the final here for the fourth time in a row. Pegula is a dogged competitor, but she has played a lot of matches recently and may be overwhelmed by the Belarussian’s power and length of shot.
