Aryna Sabalenka vs Elise Mertens prediction

Aryna Sabalenka meets Elise Mertens for the 11th time confident of passage to the last four.

The Belarusian has reached the quarter-finals without swishing a racket after Anastasia Potapova withdrew following her comeback win over Clara Tauson. 

Mertens impressed in a clinical 7-6 6-2 success over Aliaksandra Sasnovich but the Belgian has plenty of scar tissue from previous showdowns with Sabalenka.

The world number one has an 8-2 record in the head-to-head and has won the last seven, dropping just one set in that time way back in 2019. 

One slither of hope for Mertens is that it is 1-1 on clay, but her victory came in the final in Lugano seven years ago and Sabalenka has become a far more formidable force in recent times. 

It’s hard to make much of a case for the Belgian and Sabalenka is an easy favourite, with possibly more value in the number of games won.
