Aryna Sabalenka vs Elena Rybakina prediction

Aryna Sabalenka enjoyed a dominant win in the round-of-16 of the Wuhan Open as she swept aside Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets. The world number one and three-time defending champion did not even concede a break point as she wrapped up a 6-3 6-2 victory after an hour and 15 minutes. Sabalenka remains undefeated in Wuhan and the four-time Grand Slam champion extended her winning run at the tournament to 19 matches.

She will now face Elena Rybakina. Rybakina boosted her chances of qualifying for next month’s WTA Finals with a fine victory against Linda Noskova. Noskova had just reached her first WTA 1000 final less than a week ago in Beijing, but Rybakina dominated the match as she won 6-3 6-4.

These two have played each other on 12 occasions and their first meeting was at this very point of the event six years ago. Sabalenka leads the head-to-head 7-5 but it’s 4-4 on outdoor hard court. They have played each other on two previous occasions this year, with Sabalenka coming through a close three set match in Berlin, while Rybakina defeated the world number one two months later in Cincinnati.

This is a match likely to be dominated by serve, with Sabalenka well placed to come through in the most pivotal moments, while she also enjoys a faultless record at this event.
