Aryna Sabalenka vs Coco Gauff prediction
Aryna Sabalenka ensured her place in the semi-finals of the WTA Finals after coming from a break down to defeat Jessica Pegula. Pegula had won their last match in Wuhan less than a month ago and looked on course for a second successive win, but Sabalenka dug deep to win 6-4 2-6 6-3. She was not as solid on serve but the world number one has still performed well in her first two matches, as she aims for a first ever Tour Finals win.
She faces Coco Gauff in the final group stage match. Gauff kept alive her hopes of a second successive title after comfortably getting past Jasmine Paolini. Paolini was far from her best, but this was still a much-improved performance on serve from the world number three, as she was only broken once and committed 14 fewer double faults in comparison to her first group stage match against Jessica Pegula.
The head-to-head is 6-5 in favour of Gauff as it stands. The American defeated Sabalenka in the semi-finals of this competition a year ago, while she beat her in the final of Roland Garros earlier this year to win her second Grand Slam singles title. Gauff’s defensive game always seems to force Sabalenka into errors during their recent matches, but the world number one will be out for revenge here.
