Aryna Sabalenka vs Coco Gauff prediction
Aryna Sabalenka will lock horns with Coco Gauff as the top two players on the WTA Tour face-off with a maiden French Open crown on the line.
World number one Sabalenka will be targeting her fourth Grand Slam title after ending Queen of Clay Iga Swiatek’s three-year reign with a breathless 7-6 4-6 6-0 victory in the last four.
The Belarusian has now reached seven finals in 2025, lifting three titles so far and winning 29 of her last 32 matches.
It is the sort of form that makes her a clear favourite in many observers’ eyes with very few opponents able to live with her relentless power.
However, second seed Gauff has the speed and athletic defence to neutralise Sabalenka’s first-strike approach as well as the rally tolerance to endure and then clinically counter punch.
The American is an exceptional mover on the dirt and will be featuring in her second Roland-Garros final in four years after cruising past French wildcard Lois Boisson 6-1 6-2 last time out.
It has set up a mouthwatering 11th meeting between Gauff and Sabalenka with the head-to-head tied at 5-5 and 1-1 on clay. Their most recent showdown came at the Madrid Open at the start of May when the Belarusian won 6-3 7-6 in the final.
Sabalenka has won three of their last four encounters but Gauff did triumph in their first tussle in a Grand Slam final at the US Open in 2023.
There’s no doubt Gauff has the game style to thwart the top seed and the contest may well come down to how well the 21-year-old’s second serve stands up.
It remains her key weakness and the second seed will be well aware she will need to hit her spots consistently against the world number one after witnessing the way she tore through Swiatek’s first and second serve in the semi-final.
