World number one Aryna Sabalenka begins her bid for a maiden Wimbledon title, and first Grand Slam of 2025 after losing out in the final of both the Australian Open and French Open.
A shoulder injury last year prevented the Belarusian from competing at SW19, where she has been a semi-finalist on her last two appearances (2021 and 2023).
Sabalenka's first-round opponent is a Wimbledon debutant. In fact, Carson Branstine has never even featured in the main draw of any Grand Slam before, but the American-born Canadian battled her way through three rounds of qualifying to reach this stage, winning in a deciding set in all three.
Grass is not Sabalenka's preferred surface but she reached the semi-finals in Berlin recently and should go deep here. Branstine will relish the occasion on what is the biggest match of her career, but Sabalenka should win this with minimal fuss.
