The German qualifier shocked out of form second seed Sebastian Baez 5-7 6-3 7-5 to set a fourth career encounter with Rinderknech. 

The French sixth seed leads the head-to-head 2-1, including a 7-6 6-3 success at this tournament two years ago. 

Hanfmann is in good form and will have designs on revenge, but Rinderknech has impressed for much of 2025 and has a bit more on the return in a match where serve will dominate.
