Arthur Rinderknech was once again the scourge of Alexander Zverev as the Frenchman produced a stunning upset to reach the round of 16 in Shanghai.

The world number 54, who shocked the German in the first round at Wimbledon, posted a 4-6 6-3 6-2 success to claim his 23rd win of 2025, making it the most successful campaign of his career to-date.

Rinderknech will now meet 15th seed Jiri Lehecka for a third time after the Czech secured an impressive 6-4 6-4 triumph over Denis Shapovalov.

This isn’t the round of 16 match-up many would have predicted heading into the tournament and it is very much up for grabs with the head-to-head level at one apiece.

Rinderknech will look to attack the net, which was a key tactic against Zverev and will need to once again serve well.

Lehecka has a similar game-style with perhaps more consistency and shot quality when at his best.

It feels like the Czech has the slight edge in terms of overall momentum as he eyes the top 15 for the first time in his career, but Rinderknech has proved he is a tricky customer in 2025 and we add a note of caution as we just about back the higher ranked player to prevail.
