Arthur Gea advanced to the next round of the Los Cabos Open after a hard-fought win over Soonwoo Kwon. The Frenchman spurned two match points in the second set tiebreak, but regrouped brilliantly to win 6-4 6-7 (8) 6-4. Gea shone right at the start of the year, winning a Challenger title in Noumea and defeating Jiri Lehecka in the first-round of the Australian Open. He is at his highest ranking of 127 in the world.
His next opponent is Michael Zheng. The 21-year-old produced a strong display to get past Martin Landaluce in the opening round. Zheng broke on four separate occasions as he won 6-4 6-3.
They met for the first time earlier this year on the Challenger Tour, with Gea coming from a set down to beat Zheng on his way to the title in Noumea. There is little separating the pair, and this has all the ingredients of a tight contest.
