Arthur Fils vs Jakub Mensik prediction
Arthur Fils reached his first ATP semi-final since last May as he produced a brilliant display to defeat Jiri Lehecka. The Frenchman stormed into a 5-1 lead at the start of the match and went on to take the first set. The pair exchanged breaks at the beginning of the second, but Fils would create more opportunities on his opponent’s serve and go on to clinch a 6-3 6-3 victory after one hour and 29 minutes.
He now faces Jakub Mensik after he upset world number two Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals. The Czech served superbly and was solid from the baseline as he won 7-6 (3) 2-6 6-3 against the Italian. Mensik, who made the final of this tournament two years ago, has not lost in his last 10 matches and already has a title to his name in Auckland this season.
They have played each other on two previous occasions, and the head-to-head is locked at 1-1. Fils defeated Mensik in the Next Gen Finals, but the Czech would win their next meeting in Miami a few months later on his way to winning his maiden Masters 1000 title.
Fils has made strides this week, but it’s difficult not to look past Mensik, who was close to his best level in the win over Sinner.
