Arthur Fery reached the next stage of the Winston-Salem Open after a straight sets win over Cruz Hewitt. The Wimbledon semi-finalist breezed through the first set but found himself 4-1 down in the second. However, he then won six of the last seven games to clinch a 6-1 7-5 victory after one hour and 20 minutes. He saved eight out of 10 break points overall.

Fery faces Mees Rottgering in the next round of the tournament. The Dutchman continued his best run at an ATP tournament as he got past Tomas Machac in straight sets. Machac was competing in just his second event since returning from injury, and he was never truly in the contest as Rottgering won 6-2 7-6 (1). The 19-year-old is now on a four-match winning streak, having won both of his qualifying matches and defeated Jan Choinski in round one.

Rottgering has been impressive at this event so far, but Fery will be expected to reach the quarter-finals with a win here.
