Arthur Fery vs Marin Cilic prediction

Arthur Fery was unable to produce a deep run in Tokyo after a first-round loss to Jaime Faria in three sets. That was his first official match since an opening round loss at the US Open to Lorenzo Musetti. Fery rose to prominence after his remarkable run to the semi-finals of Wimbledon as a wildcard this year. The Brit then followed that up with his first tour-level final at the Winston-Salem Open, but he was unable to win the title after a loss to Ignacio Buse.

He plays 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic in the first-round.  Cilic is making his return to the tour, having not featured since the Cincinnati Open in August. He was forced to miss the US Open due to an unspecified injury, along with the start of the Asian swing. The 38-year-old is down to 80 in the world rankings. His best previous result in Shanghai was a semi-final appearance in 2017.

Cilic lacks match sharpness, and that may just give the edge to Fery.
