Arthur Fery continued his momentum on grass as he recovered from a break down in the deciding set to beat Roman Andres Burruchaga in the first-round of the Eastbourne Open. Burruchaga served for the match at 5-3 in the third set, but Fery reeled off four games in a row to win 6-2 4-6 7-5 after two hours and 17 minutes. The Briton progressed to his first tour-level quarter-final at Queen’s Club last week, and he has six wins from eight matches on grass in 2026.
His next opponent is Juan Manuel Cerundolo. The Argentine squeezed past Raphael Collignon in three sets to book a meeting with Fery. The first-round match went to a deciding set tiebreak, with Collignon leading 5-4 at one stage. However, Cerundolo, who defeated Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros last month, won three points in a row to clinch a 6-4 4-6 7-6 (5) win after two hours and 18 minutes.
Fery is performing strongly and he will fancy his chances of victory, but Cerundolo is emerging as a difficult player to beat on the tour.
