Arthur Cazaux got off to a winning start in Metz as he beat fellow countryman Adrian Mannarino in straight sets. He broke for the only time in the match in the middle of the first set and edged ahead in the second set tiebreak to win 6-3 7-6 (4). It was a solid performance from Cazaux, who wasn’t broken and conceded just one break point.
He now takes on Cameron Norrie. Norrie overtook Jack Draper as the British player with the most tour-level wins this season as he defeated Valentin Royer in three sets. He lost the second set on a tiebreak but broke right at the start of the decider to race to a 3-0 lead, eventually winning 6-3 6-7 (2) 6-3. He did not even face a break point during the match, which lasted two hours and six minutes.
They faced each other for the first time in Shanghai just over a month ago and it was a very close affair, with Norrie winning in the deciding set tiebreak. This could be another tight encounter, but Norrie is a gusty competitor and will be the favourite to grind his way to victory once again.
