Arthur Cazaux got through a three hour battle against Pedro Martinez in the first-round of the Shanghai Masters. He broke right at the end of the decider to win 6-3 3-6 7-5. Cazuax had already opened up a 3-0 lead in the third set, but Martinez fought back as the match reached its climax.
Cameron Norrie is his next opponent after the Briton received a bye in round one. Norrie’s form has taken a slight dip since his two victories for Great Britain against Poland in the Davis Cup earlier last month. He was on the end of a surprising loss to Yi Zhou in the first-round of Chengdu and then lost in round one of the China Open to former world number one Daniil Medvedev.
Cazuax has the momentum with him after that first-round win and his aggressive style could see him dominate a lot of the exchanges against Norrie, who will look to grind him down with his rally tolerance. The quicker courts in Shanghai are likely to reward Cazaux’s game, and he has a strong chance of getting through to the third-round.
