Storm Hunter overcame a collapse in a first-set tie break to claim just a second main draw win since a near 18-month nightmare following an ACL injury.

The Aussie bit back against Mai Hontama to prevail 6-7 6-2 6-4.

The 31-year-old will now have to see off compatriot Arina Rodionova if she wants to win back-to-back main draw wins for the first time since a Mumbai 125 in February 2024.

Rodionova came through after Nina Stojanovic retired at 6-3 5-5 in their first round tussle.

This will be their fourth encounter but a first since 2014 with the 35-year-old Rodionova leading 2-1.

We expect the world number 25 to extend that in the match-up given she has far more match sharpness and rhythm than her fellow Aussie right now.
