THE TEAM NEWS

LANCASHIRE

Coach: Glen Chapple

Captain: Dane Vilas

  • After losing their opening two matches of the Royal London One-Day Cup, Lancashire have bounced back in style by winning their next four matches against Yorkshire, Northants, Leicestershire and Durham so confidence is flying coming into this clash with Derbyshire.

  • Glenn Maxwell signed off in style as he has now departed for national team duty with Australia with 3/42 and 26 with the bat but they will be hoping his replacement Jake Lehmann can play a key role and bolster the batting order and he comes straight into the squad here.

  • Saqib Mahmood’s fantastic start to the tournament continued with another two wickets last time out and they will hope he can continue this rich vein of form but the entire team is making strong contributions in recent matches.

DERBYSHIRE

Coach: Dave Houghton

Captain: Billy Godleman

  • Derbyshire got their third win in six matches to take their tally to seven points as they chased down Warwickshire’s 288/7 with 3.3 overs to spare and they will know a win here against a direct competitor for a top three place is vital to their hopes.

  • Billy Godleman chipped in with another solid innings hitting 40 from 37 balls in that game but it was Wayne Madsen’s turn to step up as he smashed an unbeaten 119 from 104 balls to guide the team home and the fact other batsmen stepped up was one of the biggest positives for the team.

  • They have named an unchanged squad for this match and there is no reason to change the eleven players that will take to the pitch especially given the impressive returns for Van Beek who took 3/69 and Watt who took 2/32 from their ten overs last time out.

THE PREDICTION

This promises to be an extremely hard fought and competitive game between two sides that are evenly matched on paper and in terms of form. Lancashire have turned their campaign around with four wins in a row, while Derbyshire have competed well throughout and are capable of beating anybody on their day. Derbyshire’s batting may have the edge in form, but Lancashire’s bowling unit is the better of the two which makes for a fascinating affair. Home advantage may just swing this match in Lancashire’s favour.
