That already represents quite a feat for the 21-year-old Japanese starlet who is enjoying a great summer having made it to the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time at Wimbledon.
She now gets the opportunity to measure herself against one of the best players in the world in Jasmine Paolini.
The Italian seventh-seed is in a run of poor form having to contend with that along with changes to her coaching team. Her season has been somewhat disrupted compared to recent years and she is playing a long way from her best these days.
Ultimately Paolini should still have far too much quality for Ito but it would not be surprising if she troubles Paolini early on especially. Expect Paolini to get the win and to do so in straight sets.
