Antonia Ruzic’s indifferent form continued at the Canadian Open, as she could only reach the second-round. The Croatian came from a set down to beat Lois Boisson in her opening match, but she then fell to a comprehensive defeat against 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys. Ruzic has failed to reach round three of a tournament since Indian Wells back in March.
She faces Magdalena Frech in the first-round of the Cincinnati Open. It was a case of déjà vu for the Pole as she suffered a second successive defeat to Jessica Pegula after taking the opening set, having met the same fate at the Washington Open just a week before their clash in Toronto. Despite her competitive level, Frech has only advanced beyond the second-round of a tournament on one occasion in 2026, and that resulted in an appearance in the final of the Merida Open.
Frech is still a difficult player to face on hard courts, and Ruzic will need to produce a solid performance if she is to find a result.
