Antonia Ruzic got through qualifying to enter the main draw in Wuhan. She reached the second-round at the China Open, defeating Elsa Jacquemot in round one but going on to lose to the returning Paula Badosa in straight sets. The Croatian has won a couple of titles on the ITF circuit while her best result on the WTA was a run to the quarter-finals of the Monterrey Open in August.
She will take on Magda Linette. The 33-year-old’s average season continued in Beijing last time out as she was defeated by Marie Bouzkova in round two after receiving a bye. She is now on a run of four matches without a victory, having last tasted victory at the Cincinnati Open nearly two months ago. However, she did make the round-of-16 at that 1000 event, along with a quarter-final in Miami earlier in the year.
Despite Linette not being in the best of form and Ruzic’s momentum from her qualifying victories, the Pole is still a strong hard court player and should come out on top in this one.
