Antonia Ruzic vs Anastasia Potapova prediction

22-year-old Croatian Antonia Ruzic is coming into the Canadian Open after reaching the semi-finals at the Nordea Open a couple of weeks ago. That will no doubt give her some confidence as she looks to carry her impressive form on the ITF circuit into the WTA Tour.

It seems like a matter of time until the promising talent produces on the WTA Tour and there were signs of that in Linz not so long ago when she grabbed her first WTA 500 victory. After the short spell on grass, she will welcome the switch to the hard North American courts and aim to grab her first WTA 1000 win now.

She takes on Anastasia Potapova who is two years older than Ruzic and has a wealth more experience. The Russian has previously reached the quarter-finals at Indian Wells and Miami Open but she has only ever gone past the first round once in four editions at the Canadian Open.

Her form coming into this tournament is not great and she withdrew at Wimbledon before playing a match. She then returned in Washington last week but was upset by Victoria Mboko in straight sets so she is not exactly firing on all cylinders right now.

Ruzic could well spring an upset here and it will be interesting to see how she fares. With Potapova out of form and with very little momentum behind her, we could easily see a shock here. We are not confident enough to go with her in this one but we like her chances of winning of at least a set to consider both players to win one here.

Antonia Ruzic vs Anastasia Potapova tip: Both players to win a set
