Anna Kalinskaya vs Peyton Stearns prediction

Anna Kalinskaya fell to a 6-1 6-1 defeat to Elina Svitolina in the third-round of the Canadian Open last time out. This followed her best tournament of the season as she advanced all the way to the final of the Washington Open without losing a set, though lost feebly to Leylah Fernandez. Nevertheless, the Russian has six wins from her last eight matches after struggling for most of the campaign.

She faces Peyton Stearns after the American won her first-round match against world number 145 Yafan Wang. This ended a four match losing streak for Stearns, but she still had some nervy moments in round one as she went 4-2 down in the first set and trailed her opponent by an early break in the second.

The head-to-head is locked at 1-1 with Kalinskaya leading 1-0 on hard courts. She defeated Stearns in the third-round of last year’s China Open after the American had to retire at 3-1 down in the decider. She did get her revenge earlier this year with a comfortable straight sets win over Kalinskaya in the second-round of the Italian Open. The world number 31 is in better form now and will be a slight favourite.
