Anna Bondar’s last tournament was in Cincinnati, which saw her lose in straight sets to Ajla Tomljanovic. She did reach a final of a WTA Tour event in Hamburg just a month ago, but that was on clay. Bondar has struggled to produce any meaningful results on hard courts this year and currently holds a 6-9 win-loss record on the surface this season.
Tatjana Maria was thrashed 6-0 6-1 by Marta Kostyuk in the Cincinnati second-round. The German enjoyed huge success in the summer after winning Queen’s Club, but her recent form is a worry as she has just one victory from her last five matches.
Maria leads the head-to-head 3-2 and 2-0 on outdoor hard court. The 38-year-old has already beaten Bondar this year, having won 6-4 4-6 6-1 in the first-round of the ATX Open in February. She is struggling for consistency right now but another victory is still the most likely option here.
