Anna Bondar featured in just one grass court tournament leading up to Wimbledon and failed to make it out of qualifying for Eastbourne. She beat Megan Knight but then lost in straight sets to Kimberley Birrell. The Hungarian has never won a match at Wimbledon, losing both of her previous first-round matches.
Elina Svitolina competed at the Bad Homburg Open to prepare for Wimbledon. She defeated Libema Open champion Elise Mertens in straights but then lost out to Beatriz Haddad Maia in the round-of-16. The Ukrainian went a set up and was two games away from victory but allowed the Brazilian back into the contest, eventually being on the end of a close deciding tiebreak.
Nevertheless, Svitolina has serious pedigree at the tournament with two semi-final appearances in 2019 and 2023. They played each other just last month in the second-round of Roland Garros, with Bondar putting up a fight but Svitolina still coming through 7-6 7-5. Another straight sets win is likely.
