Ann Li did not get her North American hard court swing off to a strong start as she was beaten by Magda Linette in the first-round of the Washington Open. The American is back inside the top 30 of the live rankings and is seeded for this event in Toronto. Li’s best result of the season was a semi-final appearance in Strasbourg. She will hope to improve her record on hard courts in 2026, as she currently has six wins from 16 matches.
She will face Kayla Cross after the Canadian delighted the home crowd with a win over former British number one Katie Boulter in the opening round.
