Ann Li put in an emphatic performance the other day to hammer Zhang Shuai in just 16 games, winning 6-4, 6-2. Li performed reasonably well to reach the semi-finals in Strasbourg on clay last week. Li has enjoyed a decent nine months or so, having reached her career best at a Grand Slam with a fourth round exit at the US Open.
Diane Parry was blown away in the first set of her first round clash at Roland Garros, losing 6-0 to Anhelina Kalinina, but she went on to recover to win the next two games. The French has reached the third round at all four Grand Slam events, twice at Wimbledon, but she hasn’t done that at Roland Garros since 2022.
Parry recently won the WTA Paris Challenger, albeit two of her wins in that run saw Yuliia Putintseva withdraw and Madison Keys retire. Parry will be expected to be resilient and difficult to shake off but Li remains firm favourite.
