Anhelina Kalinina looked on course for the third-round of the Cincinnati Open as she won the first set against Emma Navarro, but the American fought back to win in three. Kalinina had beaten Darja Vidmanova in her first-round match. Her best result on the WTA Tour this season was a final appearance in Rabat, and she has also won two events on the ITF circuit in 2026. She is now inside the top 50 of the world rankings once again.

Her first-round opponent is Himeno Sakatsume. The Japanese player will make her main draw debut at the US Open after winning all three of her qualifying matches. Sakatsume also made her WTA 1000 debut at Indian Wells earlier this season and marked the occasion with a win as she beat Alycia Parks. 

Kalinina’s best results have been on clay this season, but she will be expected to come through with a victory here.
