Andrey Rublev vs Yoshihito Nishioka prediction

Yoshihito Nishioka looks to have finally put a torrid nine-match losing run behind him after reaching the second round in Shanghai.

The Japanese didn’t drop a set in qualifying as he finally savoured that winning feeling again and it was a similar story when he shocked an in-form Alexander Shevchenko 6-1 6-2 in the main draw.

Next up, the level of difficulty increases significantly as he takes on 13th seed Andrey Rublev.

The Russian has lost his last three after exiting the US Open in the round of 16 but does hold a 3-2 advantage over Nishioka in their head-to-head.

Rublev has also won the two most recent encounters back in 2023, although across their rivalry dating back to 2019 it is Nishioka who leads 2-1 on an outdoor hardcourt. 

We expect Rublev to level that up as he aims to get back on track and moving towards the top ten that he had previously been such a fixture in for so long.
