Andrey Rublev last played at the French Open where he made the fourth-round before a heavy defeat to world number one Jannik Sinner. He competes in his first grass court event of the season at the Halle Open, having made the final here in 2021 and 2023 but not managing to win the title. He begins his latest quest against Sebastian Ofner in the first-round.
Ofner won both of his qualifying matches in straight sets to enter the main draw. He produced a fine performance to defeat 17-year-old Justin Engel in the last stage, with the young German having made the quarters of the Stuttgart Open just last week. He has shown promising signs in recent weeks and made the final of a grass court event last season in Mallorca.
This isn’t the easiest of first-round matches for Rublev but he has enjoyed deep runs at this event in the past and should still be expected to make it through.
