Andrey Rublev continued his unbeaten record against Pablo Carreno Busta as he beat the Spaniard in straight sets to reach the third-round of the Cincinnati Open. The Russian edged ahead after a tight first set and raced clear in the second to win 7-6 (5) 6-1. The 28-year-old reached the final of this event in 2021, losing to Alexander Zverev.
He now faces Nuno Borges. The Portuguese produced a fine performance as he beat an out-of-form Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets. Borges won 6-4 6-4. He also made the round-of-16 at the Canadian Open, and he currently has five wins from his last six matches.
Rublev leads the head-to-head 5-0 and 2-0 on outdoor hard court. He has already beaten Borges on three occasions in 2026; in Hong Kong, Monte-Carlo and at Roland Garros. He clearly has an edge over his opponent, and he will be difficult to stop once again if his weapons are firing.
