Andrey Rublev’s quest for another Hamburg title gathers momentum after he defeated plucky German starlet Justin Engel.

The 17-year-old wildcard gave a good account of himself following on from his headline-grabbing win over Jan-Lennard Struff, but couldn’t find a way to truly trouble the Russian third seed as he eased to a 6-3 7-5 success.

Rublev will now meet Luciano Darderi for the first time after the Italian continued his excellent clay swing by defeating seventh seed Brandon Nakashima 7-5 6-7 6-2. 

Darderi definitely has the clay craft but Rublev has shown with Masters 1000 titles in Madrid and Monte Carlo in the past that he can be a real danger on the dirt - and when his forehand is firing few can live with him.
