Andrey Rublev has only competed at Halle in terms of grass court tournaments heading into the third major of the year. Despite previously reaching the final of the event, the Russian was dumped out in the round-of-16 after a dramatic encounter with Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Rublev held match points in the deciding tiebreak but spurned the opportunities with the Argentine going on to win.
Laslo Djere competed in the Mallorca Open last time out and won his first-round match but then went on to lose to Gabriel Diallo. He put up a valiant fight against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first-round of the Halle Open but lost in three sets.
This is their first match against each other on grass, but they’ve played each other on four previous occasions, with Rublev winning all of them. The world number 14 has not been at his best this season, but he should be coming through this encounter in straight sets.
