Their expertise in doubles competition was evident throughout as they expertly navigated their way through an opposition who were very one-dimensional and their lack of doubles nous compared to the Errani and Vavassori stood out.
Andrey Rublev and Karolina Muchova should provide sterner opposition following their win over USA duo Venus Williams and Riley Opelka. Rublev and Muchova clutched up when required, holding their nerve in the second set especially to pull through under pressure. But like Fritz and Rybakina found out, taking on a pair who are so in-tune with how the other plays and moves across the court, may prove a step too far for them.
