Andrea Vavassori qualified for the Adelaide International after impressive victories over Raphael Collignon and Thiago Agustin Tirante without dropping a set. The 30-year-old is primarily known for his doubles career, having won three mixed doubles Grand Slam titles with Sara Errani, along with making three major finals with Simone Bolleli. In singles, he is currently ranked 336 in the world.
He faces Gabriel Diallo in round one. The Canadian began his season at the Hong Kong Open last week. He defeated Jesper De Jong in his first-round match and looked to be cruising against Coleman Wong in the next stage of the tournament, taking the first set 6-1. However, the home favourite staged a comeback to defeat Diallo, winning the next two sets 7-5.
Diallo will want to put that disappointment behind him as he searches for a deep run in Adelaide on the eve of the Australian Open. He is expected to come out on top in straight sets against Vavassori.
