Anastasia Potapova vs Laura Siegemund prediction
Anastasia Potapova has struggled on her return from injury, with early exits in her two most recent tournaments. She lost to Canadian youngster Victoria Mboko in Washington in the first-round and then followed that up with a loss in Montreal to Antonia Ruzic despite taking the first set. Potapova faded badly after a bright start with Ruzic winning 2-6 7-5 6-0. Her best form was at the start of the year in January, with a quarter-final appearance at the Linz Open followed up by a WTA 250 win in Cluj.
Laura Siegemund will be her opponent in round one. Siegemund pushed world number one Aryna Sabalenka all the way in the Wimbledon quarter-finals a month ago, going a break up in the decider before running out of steam. She resumed her campaign in Montreal, losing in the second-round to Madison Keys after beating Tatjana Maria. She qualified for Cincinnati with two wins in qualifying.
Potapova is the steadier player and will be the favourite, though she isn’t in the best of form while Siegemund does have far more victories under her belt over the past month. This may end up going to a third set.
