Alycia Parks failed to qualify in Dubai after a defeat to Katie Volynets. She did manage to do so in Doha, making the second-round but she was unable to go any further after a loss to Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng. Her best result of the season so far was a quarter-final appearance in Ostrava.
She faces Oksana Selekhmeteva in round one of the ATX Open. Selekhmeteva’s last tournament was in Abu Dhabi. The Russian won both of her qualifying matches to get through to the main draw and was very close to a win over slam champion Jelena Ostapenko in the first-round, but lost in three sets. She impressed at the Australian Open, as she made it to the third-round, and she has risen to her highest ranking of 74 in the world.
Selekhmeteva will be a tough first-round opponent for Parks, but the American is a slight favourite and will need her strong serve to fire here.
