This is Alycia Park’s third entry in the main draw of the US Open, with her 2021 and 2023 participations both ending at the first-round stage.
The American enjoyed some decent preparation for the Flushing Meadows at the recent Monterrey Open though, defeating top seed Emma Navarro en route to the semi-finals, where she lost to eventual champion Diana Schnaider.
Indeed, that was her best run on tour since she also made the last four at the ASB Classic in January.
One of the stars or women’s tennis already, 18-year-old Mirra Andreeva is ranked fifth in the world but her last victory came at Wimbledon, a walkover in the first round of the Canadian Open notwithstanding.
There were concerns over her physical condition after an ankle injury forced her to withdraw from the Cincinnati Open recently, but she took part in the revamped mixed doubles event last week, winning one match before losing in the quarter-finals alongside Daniil Medvedev.
Andreeva has reached the quarter-finals of the last two majors and she is expected be one of the main challengers at Flushing Meadows. She should have too much for Parks here, with a straight-sets win anticipated.
