The world number seven Jasmine Paolini is her opponent in the first-round of the Australian Open. Paolini competed at the United Cup for Italy, her only event of the year so far, losing to Belinda Bencic in her first match and then coming out on top against Leolia Jeanjean. Paolini won the Italian Open last season and also helped her country retain the Billie Jean King Cup.
