Alexei Popyrin vs Holger Rune prediction

Alexei Popyrin mounted a fine comeback to beat former world number one Daniil Medvedev in the third-round and continue the defence of his title. He went a break up against the Russian but was pegged back, eventually going on to lose the first set. Popyrin did not let that disappointment affect him as he held his serve for the remainder of the match, winning 7-5 6-4 6-4. 

He will now play Holger Rune after the Dane beat Alexandre Muller in the previous round. Rune was always in control, not even facing a break point as he won 6-2 6-4 after just one hour and five minutes. The world number nine has not dropped a set so far in this tournament and has looked assured throughout.

Rune leads the head-to-head 1-0, defeating Popyrin in Rome two years ago, but this is their first match against each other on a hard court.

Popyrin will be desperate to continue his progress in Canada given the number of points he has to defend, but Rune seems to be heading into some form and will be the favourite to win.
