Alexei Popyrin vs Arthur Fery prediction
Alexei Popyrin is now ranked 22 in the world as he begins his Wimbledon campaign. A strong run to the fourth-round of the French Open was a step in the right direction for the Aussie but he couldn’t back it up with a deep run in either of the warmup events on grass. After receiving a bye, he lost in the second-round of the Libema Open to Zizou Bergs. There were encouraging signs at Queen’s as he went ahead in the deciding tiebreak against Jack Draper in the round-of-16 but couldn’t get the job done.
Arthur Fery will be aiming to reach the second-round of Wimbledon after two previous failed attempts. He last competed on the Challenger Tour in Nottingham and made it through two rounds of qualifying. He then defeated former world number nine Fabio Fognini and took the first set off Terence Atmane in round two but ran out of steam.
They have faced each other once before, with Popyrin defeating Fery in the first stage of qualifying for Queen’s Club two years ago. The Australian is much improved from the player he was back then and is likely to encounter no issues in this first-round match.
