Andrey Rublev claimed quick revenge over Learner Tien to progress to the third round in Cincinnati.

The Russian suffered a shock loss to the young American in Washington recently, but was rock-solid this time around as he notched up a 7-6 6-3 victory over the 19-year-old.

The ninth seed will now meet Alexei Popyrin after the 21st seed clinched a 7-6 6-3 win over Spanish qualifier Martin Landaluce.

This will be a fourth meeting between the pair with the Aussie winning the previous two encounters last year to lead the head-to-head 2-1.

The most recent of those showdowns was on an outdoor hardcourt in the Masters 1000 final in Canada last year where Popyrin bagged a 6-2 6-4 triumph.

Rublev will need to return well to deal with the Aussie's powerhouse serve and if the Russian can dictate with that venomous forehand, he has a chance to make this latest meeting a much more intriguing battle.
