Alexandra Eala will meet Victoria Mboko in a clash of rising starlets in Hong Kong.
The 20-year-old Philippine star was leading 6-4 2-1 when Great Britain’s Katie Boulter retired in her opener.
It sets up a first tour-level match with 19-year-old Mboko, who came from behind to defeat Talia Gibson 6-7 6-1 6-4.
The pair did meet in the girls singles semi-final at the US Open in 2022 with Eala triumphing 6-1 7-6.
Mboko has made even greater strides than her rival since then and with her power-game it feels like the match will be on her racquet, particularly as the rust from her injury lay-off is seemingly clearing.
